The Story Behind the Bottle
This sumptuous red wine is an affordable introduction to the great wines of Montalcino – and in a more approachable style than Brunello. It’s crafted by Caprili, a remarkable family estate originally founded in 1965 by Alfo Bartolommei. It used to be part of the Pieve Santa Restituta and is a neighbour to the renowned Soldara. Today, the estate is one of the region’s star performers, run by Alfo’s three children, with his grandson, Giacomo, as winemaker. This is a fine, classic red with aromas of red berries, cherry, woodsmoke and spice. The palate offers similar flavours, with silky tannins, freshness and a long, complex finish. Decant an hour before serving to enjoy it at its best. A fine match for pizza and pasta, lamb or aged cheeses.
