Flavour Profile
The beautifully restored, medieval Château de Francs is the joint project of school friends Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus and Dominique Hébrard, formerly of Château Cheval Blanc.
With such illustrious backgrounds, it was perhaps surprising that the two decided to invest in little-known Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux’s smallest, sunniest appellation. But this under-the-radar appellation has limestone terroir just like the plateau of Saint-Émilion and the wines echo those of its pricier neighbour.
Made mostly from hand-harvested Merlot, supported by Cabernet, this 2019 Château de Francs will seduce you with its deep blackberry, plum and floral flavours. It’s silky and intense with ripe, concentrated fruit, while ageing in oak casks lends complexity and roundness. A fine claret, great with duck or steak. Reserve now for delivery in June
