Flavour Profile
Château Duplessis is a small estate tucked away in under-the-radar Moulis-en-Médoc – the smallest of the six Médoc appellations. Moulis is always an insider’s pick as the vineyards lie to the west of Margaux and offer far better value. That’s especially true of Château Duplessis, which is renowned for being a “good quality and consistent property” – Decanter.
The vineyards are impeccably sited on clay-limestone soils between those of the Barton family – makers of Second Growth Léoville Barton – and the famous Rothschild family. It’s a region attracting big investment owing to its combination of top terroir and affordable prices compared to nearby Margaux and Saint-Julien.
At 12 years old, the 2014 vintage is wonderfully mature. In an absolute sweet spot right now, the black fruit is alive and singing, with subtle tobacco and spice. A delicious partner for roasted lamb, venison in tomato-based sauces, lamb tagine or duck confit.
