The Story Behind the Bottle

The state of Oregon, in America’s Pacific Northwest, boasts the perfect climate, soil and culture for viticulture. It’s particularly well-suited for growing Chardonnay, like this one from renowned Hyland Estate in the prized Willamette Valley.

The very first vine on the Hyland Estate was planted in 1971. Now, more than 50 years later, it has a reputation for creating exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its vineyards are planted on red volcanic soil, which lends freshness and elegance to the wines, as does their 300-metre elevation and the cooling Pacific breeze which helps slow ripening.

Owner Laurent Montalieu is a vineyard fanatic, always striving to produce “the ultimate expression of terroir.” They grow different clones of both grapes and do separate bottlings, farming biodynamically too. Such exacting measures to ensure the finest wines.

This bright and expressive Chardonnay was aged for 11 months in French oak, adding a silky texture and subtle wood spice to balance the layers of ripe peach, lemon curd, fresh ginger and tropical fruit flavours. A great wine to enjoy with food, try pairing it with buttered lobster, creamy pasta dishes, pork tenderloin or umami-rich vegetable dishes.
