The Story Behind the Bottle

Jim Barry is a legend of Australian wine, regularly awarded 5 Red Stars by Halliday and a former Australian Winery of the Year. Just one of a huge line up of prizes the cellar has won since its foundation.

The original Jim Barry and his wife Nancy bought nearly 30 hectares of prime farmland from their friend Duncan McRae Wood in 1964 and planted their first Shiraz vineyard. Since then, they have been key in the Clare Valley gaining its premium reputation for Riesling and Shiraz.

Today the winery is run by the 2nd and 3rd generations. Peter Barry first tasted Assyrtiko in 2006 when on holiday in Santorini with his wife. Impressed, he started the process of importing the vines, planting his first vineyard in 2012. This is the end result – a delightful, crisp, pure fruit white with terrific zesty freshness. Totally delicious as a glass on its own, or with seafood, spicy noodles or perhaps creamy Thai green curry.
