Flavour Profile
If you’re looking for a really appetising white wine with a classic touch of spritz, reach for a bottle of Vinho Verde. Lavagante is a modern, fresh take on this Portuguese classic – super zingy-fresh and dry.
Vinho Verde lies in Portugal's northwestern corner and, close to the Atlantic, is one of its dampest regions. That might not sound like benefit to us, but the grapes here love it. This only adds to the thirst-quenching freshness of its white wines.
For Lavagante, winemaker Manuel Lopo de Carvalho uses Loureiro, one of the area’s top white grapes, nicknamed the 'Riesling of Portugal'. It brings lemony finesse and minerality, while Arinto adds more citrus. Trajadura grapes add layers of ripe pear and blossom notes and Avesso, grapefruit, peach and almond. With its light spritz, it's great solo or, as you might expect from its label, with seafood.
