Flavour Profile
When a wine racks up multiple 90-plus scores from top critics, you know it has to be special. And in this case, superb value too. Le Petit Clos is the second wine of Chile legend, Clos Apalta, and comes from a special part of the Colchagua Valley.
The vines have a north to south exposure, rare for Chile, and a microclimate that’s unique to them. The Tinguiririca river runs down one side, while the hills of the coastal Cordillera form a horseshoe shape around the other. This blocks out sunlight at sunrise and sunset, thereby drawing out the ripening and helping to make these remarkable, intense, long-lived wines.
Le Petit Clos is made from classic Bordeaux varieties and goes through the same meticulous methods as Clos Apalta. 'Malo' and the first six months ageing takes place in pure new oak, before it spends another 16 months in a mix of new and seasoned casks. 96 points from critic James Suckling, who gave Le Petit Clos this glowing review …
“A deep, complex nose with multiple layers of graphite, dark olives, blackberries and dark chocolate. Really fine-grained, powdery tannins with ripe and juicy fruit. A touch of pepper at the end, followed by a lengthy finish. Fresh and slightly opulent.”
