All the better if your red, like Maria Fadista, is made by Portuguese winemaking legend, Jaime Quendera. His father and grandfather were both winemakers and now he’s one the best of his generation. It comes from Setúbal, a renowned wine region south of Lisbon’s Tagus estuary. Seductive aromas of dark cherry, cocoa and warming spice. Velvet-smooth texture with ripe black fruit flavours and gentle hints of vanilla. The name? Maria was a 19th-century Fado pioneer who wandered Lisbon singing songs of love, dreaming of wild adventure and starry nights.
