Martins Vineyard McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021
The Curtis Family Martins Vineyard Shiraz is an unashamedly old-school Aussie red – or, as the Halliday Wine Companion puts it, “richly fruited and lavishly oaked, rippling with dark berries, milky chocolate and clovey, vanillin notes”.
The grapes come from sixty-year-old vines in premium Blewitt Springs, giving super concentrated, layered and complex flavours. After fermentation, the wine spent three years in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barrels – an exceptionally long stretch, but one that the sheer richness of the fruit easily carries.
Powerful, ripe and generously oaked, this is a full-throttle Shiraz with waves of dark berry, mocha and sweet spice. Decant and serve with slow-braised beef, peppered lamb shoulder or a hearty mushroom dish.
