Flavour Profile
The Muga family believe that the best grapes are grown on their own estate, so for the past decade they've been buying up top-quality vineyards. Following that same rule of thumb, they only use barrels made by their own team of coopers. It’s this attention to detail that has created exceptional wines like Muga’s flagship Prado Enea.
The grapes for this remarkable wine come from parcels in the northwest of the Rioja Alta, in the villages like Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche, renowned for their quality. It's cool up there, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and hold onto their freshness, and the grapes are the last to be harvested.
Against all the norms, the grapes are fermented in small oak vats, with no temperature control nor added yeast. The wine is then aged for at least three years in oak casks, mostly French oak but with a small number of American oak casks as well. After bottling, it's aged another three before release.
Only made in the very best years, this is a remarkable wine with complex layers of ripe, dark fruit, clove, cinnamon and cocoa flavours. A timeless Gran Reserva that pairs beautifully with roast beef or venison, as well as mature cheeses. Perfect for enjoying now, but with extraordinary aging potential.
