Flavour Profile
We’ve been working with the Seifried family for over 20 years. First we introduced customers to the ravishing Split Rock Sauvignon Blanc. Now we present their tasty Pinot Noir. Both wines are from Nelson on the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, next door to Marlborough.
Seifried Estate was founded in 1973 by the Hermann Seifried, a young Austrian on a world tour. He stopped off in New Zealand to see where the All Blacks came from and fell in love with Agnes, a local primary school teacher. And never left. In 1973 the couple realised their dream and planted a vineyard and have since racked up a host of awards.
Today their three children, Chris, Heidi and Anna, run the property, the eldest two – Chris and Heidi – as winemakers. They named this wine after the striking Split Apple Rock in nearby Tasman Bay. Midweight with silky mature fruit and a spicy savoury finish, this is a great red with roast chicken or a wild mushroom risotto.
